Destination weddings are some of my favourite weddings, and this year we have had the privilege to travel to some pretty awesome locations.
Whilst Perth is technically not another country, it is almost 4 hours by plane and on a different time zone. Just remember, someone else's backyard is someone else's destination wedding.
I have photographed some pretty elaborate and expensive gowns in my time from some amazing Couture artists. Morgan's dress was one of a kind and PRICELESS. It's not every day that your grand mother gets to make your dress, stitch by stitch, and by her own beautiful hands. Truly an amazing gift.
I have shot over a thousand weddings and there aren't many things that I haven't witnessed before.I still get emotional, and I still feel every heart beat and every anxious breath, of the people around me.
Among many highlights of the day, seeing the haka performed at the wedding bought me to tears.I have seen the haka at sporting events, and for many of us, it's a great spectacle and a great way to start a sporting match. However, this was different . . . Samoan (Siva Tau) and Moari (Tika Tonu) Lead by Best Man (Tyson the brother of the groom). A proud and powerful expression of love, honour and respect.
The hakas are an honour to perform and to have performed for. The actions and words are a challenge- challenging the bride and groom to take on marriage and life together. And when Kurt responded it was him accepting the challenge on behalf of us in front of all the family.
The weapons we were given to Kurt and Morgan after the hakas, to be in their home to guide and protect them. Showing their family and ancestors looking over them always and to remind them of who they are as a family.
The Scottish Goblet from the McIntyre clan, was for their first drink as husband and wife. To symbolise togetherness through life and the backing of family that they will always have.
Being a part of someones journey is an honour and I continually express to everyone who is in front of my camera, the gratitude I have for inviting me to be a part of their world, in all it's forms.
Thank you Kurt and Morgan
